Expectations:
For schools with non-English reading/speaking students, we have found using the Google Chrome browser’s built-in translation to be a possible solution.
We cannot warrant the accuracy of the translation nor the resulting reliability and validity of the assessments; however, we have had a few schools review this and indicate the translation is very good (especially for Spanish). Clients are advised to provide translational support when possible when students are taking the assessments, do their own review of the translation, and using the platform using this practice.
Alternatively, students not comfortable reading/speaking English are encouraged to have a bilingual friend help them take the assessment. Counselors could also make the decision to allow students to experience the platform by themselves, but they should meet with them to ensure the student had a positive experience and does not reject their results, and if so, we recommend you provide translational support.
The process to translate PathwayU using Google Chrome:
To do this, right-click on the screen where there isn’t anything specific to click on (like a button or text) and select Translate to English, then on top, you will see a dialog box, clicking on the three dots bring up a menu to select another language, pick the language and hit Translate, and it will translate the page in real-time. To go back, right-click again and select Translate to Language You Selected and select another language or select the detected language.
